The Four Corners Healthy Living insert had an article about athletic injuries.
They mentioned three major points.
1) Stay involved. Even if you cannot compete, you can still stay involved in your sport. If you are physically capable, offer to volunteer at events.
2) Set realistic recovery goals. Many people begin physical therapy with a gung-ho attitude. It is important that people remember that recovery is not overnight, and even the most elite athletes, and can be discouraged if they enter the rehabilitation process with unrealistic expectations. Be flexible when setting your recovery goals. You never know how your body will respond to treatment.
3)Expect setbacks. Don’t allow yourself to become discouraged if a goal can’t be met because your body is simply not ready or needs to pause in its recovery process.
There are various ways for people to cope with injuries and make the recovery process less frustrating. Remember that PASCO/SW can help with certified skilled nurses for pain medication management. We also provide physical therapy that comes to your home to help with the recovery process. Along with the skilled care we have personal care staff that can take care of the errands, and light housekeeping.
